What makes REC solar panels so good?
At Greenlife, REC has been our favourite brand of solar panel for quite a while now. The Norwegian company that started in 1996 is one of the most awarded and successful solar panel companies in the world – and for good reason.
Many people are often searching for REC solar panel reviews and information, and so here are some of the factors that make REC panels so good.
REC were the winner of Germany’s “Photon” test in 2011, the world most prestigious solar panel performance test.
They beat out 45 other brands of panel to take the crown, producing an average of 6% more energy than other brands in the test.
Excellent output in hot weather.
Solar panels like bright light, but not too much heat. In fact, as solar panels get hotter, they start to become less efficient – but some panels perform a lot better on hot days than others.
One important rating of any solar panel is the “temperature coefficient”, which is a rating that tells you how much performance the solar panel will lose with each degree of temperature over 25C.
REC have one of the best hot weather ratings in the world (-0.4%/C) – meaning that in Australia, you can expect REC solar panels to produce more energy than many other brands on hot days – perfect for when the airconditioner and fridge are chewing up power!
REC make everything from scratch.
REC are a “Tier 1” solar company that make everything from the raw sand right up to the completed solar module. Some other companies regularly substitute materials and components from various suppliers, meaning that the overall quality of their solar panels can very.
REC have complete control over the entire process and make everything to their own high standards. In fact, the company has over 100 patents in solar panel technology.
A truly state of the art company.
In late 2010 REC opened their new pride and joy – a 1.3 Billion Euro solar panel manufacturing facility in Singapore, which was officially opened by the prime minister. It’s here that REC produce their solar modules that are installed all over the world.
The Singapore facility is specially designed to use extremely low levels of energy and water – which has won REC several awards.
This year they are increasing the production of the facility by around 25% – REC is a company that is planning on being around for a very long time.
